Early Life:
Born to Sarah and Joseph Rogers, poor Irish immigrants on July 4, 1921. Raised during the Great Depression, Steve started working as a newspaper boy at age 6. Joseph passed when Steve was young. Orphaned when he was 16 after Sarah passed from a long illness.Horrified by the events of World War II and determined to do his part to stop fascism, Rogers attempted to enlist in the United States Army. He was classified as 4-F. Dr. Erskine determined he was the first candidate for Project Rebirth, the United State’s attempt at a Super Soldier army. This 1941 project (part intravenously, part oral, part vita-rays) turned Rogers into the Super Soldier he is most known as. However, he still sees himself as that skinny kid. Unfortunately, Dr. Erskine was assassinated by a Nazi saboteur and Rogers remains the first and only Super Soldier of his kind.World War II Service: 1941-1945Rogers underwent three-month intensive physical and tactical training program for gymnastics, hand-to-hand combat, and military strategy. He was then given his first mission - to stop Red Skull both physically and through propaganda. Rogers was then given the codename ‘Captain America’ as well as a cover identity as a bumbling private at Camp Lehigh.Soon, Captain America was defeating Axis efforts at home and abroad. He was not alone. He had Bucky, Namor, the Human Torch (Jim Hammond), and Toro as the Invaders. Later, the Invaders were joined by Spitfire and Union Jack.After many battles, Cap and Bucky had their final mission (April 1945) - to stop a bomb-loaded drone-plane fired by Baron Zemo. While Bucky attempted to disarm the bomb, the plane was boobytrapped. Both Captain America and Bucky were thrown into the ocean from the blast. Cap was placed in a state of suspended animation due to the Serum until the Avengers (Wasp, Giant-Man, Thor, Iron Man) discovered him [REDACTED] decades later.

• Modern Era

Modern Era:Upon awakening in the modern era, Rogers struggled with what to do next. At first, he wanted to return to his time. He enjoyed the progress the modern era had accomplished during his decades asleep. However, he felt like he did not fit in. During a battle against Kang the Conqueror, Rogers temporarily felt like his wish was granted. He was home in the year he had left. However, he realized he no longer fit there either. He then returned to the present to aid the Avengers in defeating Kang.Not long after, the founding Avengers took leave. Rogers, along with Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch took up the mantle of continuing the Avengers. The press dubbed them “Cap’s Kooky Quartet.”In the following years, Rogers connected with old colleagues (Peggy Carter, Nick Fury, Dum Dum Dugan, Gabe Jones, Logan, and Namor) as well as met new friends (Sam Wilson, Avengers). He fell in love with Sharon Carter. For a brief time, Rogers was disillusioned by the government and went under the name Nomad. He then determined it didn’t matter what DC said, he could be Captain America and serve the people. To be loyal to the American Dream.Secret War:Cap and several superheroes were asked by Fury to undertake a mission in Latveria to overthrow the government that was undertaking superpowered terroristic acts against the United States and their interests. Despite the president saying Fury should leave it alone. Unbeknownst to the assembled heroes, Fury planned to make an example of von Bardas and brought down Castle Doom onto the city below, killing an untold number of people. Knowing that the superheroes could never condone such an action, Fury had the previous two days activities erased from their minds. Months later, Cap regained his memory and had words with Fury. On the year anniversary of their attack on Latveria, the heroes are all attacked by an army of technology-wielding super-criminals, led by von Bardas for revenge. Daisy Johnson, a super-powered S.H.I.E.L.D. agent loyal to Nick Fury, who managed to defeat von Bardas before she could detonate her bomb.

• Avengers Disassembled-Reborn

Avengers Disassembled, New Avengers, Winter Soldier, and Civil War:After the Scarlet Witch suffered a breakdown with far lasting consequences for the Avengers, Rogers moved into a building in Brooklyn and picked up his relationship with Sharon Carter. He also helped create a new version of the Avengers, free from the ties to the UN. After the apparent assassination of the Red Skull, Lukin was in possession of the Cosmic Cube. However, Steve realized Bucky was still alive as a mind controlled Soviet assassin, the Winter Soldier. Cap used the Cosmic Cube to restore Bucky’s memory.“Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world – ”'No, you move.’“Director Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D. asked the Avengers to enforce the Superhuman Registration Act. Determining this to be government overreach, Rogers became the leader of the resistance to the Registration Act, fearing that the freedom of America’s heroes and the safety of their families were in danger. At the final battle between Iron Man and Captain America, Cap realized they were putting the people he wanted to protect in danger and surrendered. Before he was put on trial, Rogers was assassinated on the courthouse steps. While his body was killed, his essence was “locked into a fixed point in space and time.” Rogers’ mind was being transported through time, forcing him to relive certain segments of his life.While reliving the Kree-Skrull War, he was able to ask the Vision to record a message about his time travel condition to Mister Fantastic and Wasp (Henry Pym) in the future, which was duly relayed by the current Vision (Jonas). With this data, Richards concluded that Sharon was the key to bringing Steve out of time, although they were too late to stop Doctor Doom and Arnim Zola from doing just that, however the Red Skull was now in control of Steve’s body.Barnes and Rogers fought to drive the Red Skull from his body and succeeded in doing so. Rogers considered retirement from the role and allowed Barnes to continue operating as Captain America, thinking that there should not be two formal active Captain Americas. Rogers visited the current US President who gave “Captain America,” not Steve Rogers specifically, a full pardon for his actions during the Civil War.

After Bucky seemingly died against Sin/Skadi and the Serpent, Rogers took up the shield and Captain America again.At some point, he loses the Serum and regresses to his former self. He gives the Captain America mantle and shield to Sam Wilson and supports him off the field. Sam interacts with Captain America weight much differently than Steve or Bucky and Steve appreciates these changes and insights.While taking a tour of Pleasant Hill (a S.H.I.E.L.D. prison for super villains where they believe they are peaceful civilians - Rogers is disgusted), Rogers is almost killed by Crossbones. A sentient Cosmic Cube with the form and mentality of a young girl restores the Serum.Current:Rogers reflects on his place in the world. He and the Daughters of Liberty work together against the Red Skull, the Lukins, and to regain a portion of Sharon Carter’s soul that was lost. Eventually, Rogers accepts the shield and name back from Sam and the two remain friends. He returns to the old tenement apartment Sarah and him shared when he was young and takes art classes at the community college.Current Point of View/Mindset:“It’s the same for all of them. Young men. Pre-War (1918-1943):
Steve was born prematurely to Sarah and Joseph Rogers on July 4, 1918. Not expected to survive, baby Steve Rogers had been incubated at Couney’s Coney Island sideshow. Sarah refused to give up. Joseph was overseas, fighting in the Great War. Sarah was alone. But she wouldn’t give in. Yelled at one of her sympathetic nurse friends to wrap the baby in a blanket and go straight to Coney Island. Get him warm. Proper medical care in the incubator. The Rogerses and the rest of the families didn’t have to pay a dime. It took him 6 months to be stable enough to go home for the first time. In a way, he was always on exhibit.The family survives on Sarah’s nurse salary, whatever Joseph can bring in, and Steve selling newspapers after school. Joseph passed when Steve was 12. The two never got along due to Joseph’s alcoholism. Sarah was a fierce, caring mother who taught Steve to always stand up to injustice but to also use his head.1930: Steve has a couple of friends before Bucky. Arnie Roth was one of them. But it’s Bucky who kicks a handful of bullies to the curb out of nowhere one spring afternoon. From then on, the two are inseparable, practically living out of each other’s pockets. Steve’s a welcome addition to the Barnes’ home. Becca, Bucky’s sister, patches the two up from whatever scrapes the two find themselves in if she can help it. Most of the time, Steve takes care of himself. Mam’s a nurse, thank you. Sarah sees Bucky and Becca as her children as well.1932: FDR is elected for the first time. Things start looking slightly up as Steve and Bucky enter high school, despite the rest of the Depression. Eugenics is getting more and more popular. When he can, he starts working for the Federal Art Project (1935-1943). They graduate high school in 1936.1937: Steve starts art school. However, he has to drop out to help take care of Sarah.1938: Sarah passes when Steve is 20. Bucky tries to coax Steve to move in with the Barnes family. Steve refuses, saying he can get by on his own. So, Bucky stubbornly moves out of his family’s house and into Steve’s apartment. They both work odd jobs and Bucky keeps trying to get Steve back in art school.1939: German American Bund rally at Madison Square Garden - February 20. Got to hear what these fascists are saying. Some 20,000 people attended and heard Kuhn criticize President Roosevelt by repeatedly referring to him as “Frank D. Rosenfeld”, calling his New Deal the “Jew Deal” and denouncing what he believed to be Bolshevik-Jewish American leadership. Disgusted, Steve and Bucky are part of the protestors who fight against the Bund.1941: Bucky gets drafted after Pearl Harbor. Steve tries to enlist for the first time and gets deemed 4-F. He keeps alternating between odd jobs and trying to get the Army to take him all the way up till-1943: Project Rebirth. Recognizing Steve’s good heart inside of a 90 lb. asthmatic with a laundry list of chronic conditions, Dr. Erskine recruits Steve for Strategic Scientific Reserve’s Project Rebirth. After intense training, Steve receives the Super Soldier Serum. However, Dr. Erskine is assassinated after the procedure, leaving Steve to be the only Super Soldier instead of the first of an army.

• The War

World War II Service (1943-1945)At first, Steve works for the USO, selling war bonds. Peggy Carter reminds him he’s for better things than this. Realizing his last performance was for the 107th, and that Bucky was still captured, Steve goes AWOL and rescues the rest of the men.From here, it’s history. Captain America and the Howling Commandos, liberating Europe from the HYDRA threat.1945: Steve is heartbroken when Bucky falls from the train. From then, the fight against HYDRA and the Red Skull is not just the right thing to do. It’s also personal .The Howling Commandos take HYDRA’s Headquarters and Cap defeats the Red Skull on the Valkyrie. Realizing there was no time to land the plane safely, Cap puts the plane in ice. He is frozen in suspended animation.

• Modern Era

Battle of New York (2012)Steve is retrieved from the Arctic by S.H.I.E.L.D. and wakes up in October 2011 New York. He spends his time wandering the City, reading, and tries to catch up on what he’s missed. Hesitates to contact those who are still around. PTSD and guilt over Bucky’s death haunt him because it was just yesterday to him when it all happened.Less than a year after waking up, Loki commences his attack on New York with the Chitauri. The Avengers Initiative kicks into high gear and is ultimately successful. Despite the initial hiccups, Steve values his relationships with Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, and Clint Barton.S.H.I.E.L.D., Project Insight, and Winter Soldier (2014)Deciding distance may be preferable, Steve joins one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s STRIKE teams. He works closely with fellow Avenger Natasha Romanoff as well as Brock Rumlow, Jack Rollins, Jasper Sitwell, and under Director Nick Fury. Steve continues to learn about the world but is unsure of his place in it. He gets therapy from S.H.I.E.L.D. but tends to downplay the extent of his PTSD and feelings. Steve hates bleeding on people or sharing what actually hurts him. Over time, he reaches out to Peggy Carter, and forms new friendships with Sam Wilson and Sharon Carter.Of course, the world is rocked with Project INSIGHT. He initially mistrusted it - “This isn’t freedom. This is fear.” His old enemy, HYDRA, survived the plane crash. Ideas are harder to kill than men. What really shakes him up is the resurfacing of Bucky Barnes as a brainwashed HYDRA agent - the Winter Soldier. Together with his team, Steve takes down Project INSIGHT by crashing the Helicarriers and himself and Bucky into the Potomac. Still reeling from his programming unraveling, Bucky rescues Steve and abandons him at the shore. Steve, along with Sam, chase Bucky and try to bring him home. But Bucky is always one step ahead of them.Age of Ultron (2015)The Avengers go back to what Steve does best - knock down HYDRA bases. The victory celebration is cut short by the appearance of Ultron, who determines the Avengers’ deaths will bring peace to the world. Wanda Maximoff’s powers make Steve see a life he could have had. Together, the Avengers defeat Ultron - saving the civilians in the process - but not before the city of Novi Grad was dropped to Earth.With Romanoff, Steve helps lead the New Avengers team, consisting of War Machine, Falcon, Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver.

• Civil War-Endgame

Sokovia Accords and Civil War (2016)After an incident in Nigeria (Crossbones lives, civilians die), the United Nations demand the Avengers receive direction and oversight from a panel, rather than operate independently. Steve determines the safest hands are still the Avengers’ own and refuses to sign. He attends Peggy’s funeral. King T'Chaka is assassinated by Zemo posing as Bucky. Steve, Sam, Sharon, Clint, Wanda, Pietro, and Scott Lang go rogue. Zemo takes the Project Winter Soldier data as well as Bucky’s mission report and goes to Siberia. The other Winter Soldiers are killed in cryo. Iron Man, Bucky, and Steve fight as the Winter Soldier killed Tony’s parents. Steve knew this in the Winter Soldier file but did not tell Stark. In the end, Tony is defeated and Bucky and Steve seek refuge in Wakanda.On the run as Nomad (2016-2018)Steve, Sam, Natasha, and the Maximoffs go on the run. Bucky remains in Wakanda. Clint and Scott return to their lives.Infinity War (2018)Steve and his team rendezvous with the rest of the heroes in Wakanda to safely remove Vision’s Mind Stone. Unfortunately, Thanos overwhelms the heroes and completes the Infinity Gauntlet. At a snap of his finger, half the universe’s population is wiped from existence. Once it was clear the Infinity Stones were destroyed and Thanos was dead, Steve returned to Earth.The Snap (2018-2023)Steve remains with the Avengers and runs a Support Group in Brooklyn. He works closely with Natasha (plus Bucky, Sharon, and Sam if they are un-Snapped). He feels stuck and unable to move on from his own past, even if he tells everyone to move forward.Endgame (2023)With the arrival of Scott from the Quantum Realm, the Avengers plan and carry out the Time Heist and defeat Thanos during the Final Battle.Steve returns the Stones. After a short dance with Peggy, he returns back to 2023, still a young man.Commander Rogers (2024)Currently, Steve is working on what he wants out of life, not being Cap. He passes the shield to Sam and decides to take on a supportive role to the Avengers as Commander Rogers
